The Fool's Fayre Leitrim Longswords' first time hosting an event!
It is intended to be a gathering of HEMA enthusiasts with the intention of free sharing of skills and knowledge in a fun and relaxed environment.
Based at the Leitrim GAA hall in the town of Leitrim, Co. Leitrim (map link below), the event will run from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 1st April and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday 2nd April.
The Leitrim GAA hall boasts changing rooms and kitchen facilities for those in need of caffiene of whichever flavour and other sustenance.
We have 3 Guest Instructors (TBC), 2 of which will be showing us their skills on the Saturday and the Other on the Sunday, hopefully freeing up more time for the Fechtshule. First confirmed Instructor is Ash O'Rourke of the 1595 Martial Arts Club, who will be teaching a sabre workshop.
Others still TBC - We're still taking volunteers if anyone has any particular skills or style they wish to share...
The Fechtschule itself will be run with similar rules to other HEMA events in Ireland but will not be a League Event: Points accumulated at this event will not go towards any kind of League Total.
It does however give you Bragging Rights for the entire year as we are introducing An Added Twist...The Leitrim Longsword Patented Card System.
There will also be prizes for conduct, enthusiasm, style, baggiest trousers, most flamboyant salute, best newcomer, etc.
We are also hoping that on the Saturday evening attendees will join us at one of the local Hostelries for a slap-up feast and an evening of convivial, enthusiastic company.
As it is a Weekend Event, some members of the Letrim Longswords have generously offered their homes to Attendees. Unfortunately there is limited space, so it will be on a First Come, First Served basis. There are however an absolute plethora of B & B's in this lovely but soggy part of the country so if this is your preference, please PM one of the Admins and we will do our best to get you a link or information for these.
The event will cost €30 for the whole weekend but we are offering an Early Bird Special of €25, available until 5th March. If taking advantage of this offer, please contact Admin Adrian Shwapka, as he is taking booking via PayPal.
Booking form will be uploaded soon.
This is the Fool's Fayre, so we're gathering for the enjoyment of our mutual passion rather than league table points and the fun and frivolity to be had hitting comrades and like-minded individuals with weapons of varying lethality.

Instead of workshops teaching techniques the veterans will coach the beginners, giving them their own personal advice and experiences. This can come in any format the fencer likes and cover any topic they feel is important. From tournament etiquette to how best to warm up before hand or how to stay focussed. It’s a great way for new instructors and/or fencers planning to become one to get experience with teaching a large group and it adds a very personal touch to the whole process as each will have a different perspective and style of delivery. In turn this will benefit the beginners from their joint experiences. Once coached the beginners will have their tournament, using ‘Black fencers’ supplied by I.S.H.C. This will be judged & refereed by the experienced fencers. Afterwards the contestants can relax and see how it’s done as the veterans pad-up, pick up the steel and fight it out for 1st prize and our perpetual trophy.
Will begin with an informal discussion and brain storming session, were fencers and instructors alike can share and test out new ideas over some good quality coffee. Then a mass warm-up taken up every instructor in turn before the second tournament begins. SYNTHETIC SINGLE SWORD COMPETITION, open to all.
On November 25th, HEMA Ireland will be carrying out it's next round of Level 1 Instructor Assessments. Candidates will be contacted with full details of venue, times, and costs, along with assessment criteria.
